Who we are

Community Futures Wood Buffalo is a non-profit organization incorporated under Alberta’s Companies Act (Non-Profit).

Established in 1988, the Community Futures Wood Buffalo is a Community Futures organization. The federal government provides funding for 28 Community Futures organizations across Alberta and 90 Community Futures organizations in Western Canada through Western Economic Diversification Canada. The federal government provides funding for 268 Community Futures organizations across Canada.

Community Futures Wood Buffalo is part of the Northern Alberta Community Futures region with other business development centers in St. Paul, Bonnyville, Lac La Biche, Lloydminster, Two Hill and Viking. Members in this region meet on a quarterly basis and the region send representatives to sit on the board of the Community Futures Network Society of Alberta.

Computer technologies provide a link with all other Community Futures organizations in Alberta, which allows the Community Futures Wood Buffalo to offer workshops throughout the province through video conferencing equipment.

Community Futures Wood Buffalo also offers access to The Business Link, a service for entrepreneurs that includes experts and a resource library funded jointly by Western Economic Diversification and Alberta Economic Development.

Throughout the year, Community Futures Wood Buffalo holds Brown Bag videoconference seminars through The Business Link.

Community Futures Wood Buffalo offers loans of up to $150,000 in addition to one-on-one counseling with a business analyst. Our staff informs small business owners on process like: incorporation, business plan, applications for permits and licenses as well as other necessary activities in small business start up or expansion.
