Message from the Chairman

September 2009

“Seeing Results” summarizes the past year. As our General Manager, Ross Jacobs, takes us through his first full year, he has created a new office team with the addition of an Office Manager, a new position filled by the energetic and experienced Erin Griffin.  In addition, he recently added a new Business Analyst, Lisa Downey, to complete the office.

We have taken another step forward under Ross’ leadership with a strong portfolio of loan clients, as well as additional training, to ensure we are ready for a new fiscal year and to ensure long-term success for our loan clients.

Our move to the lower level of our building has also proved to be an asset, both financially as well as providing us with much needed space to allow our growth to continue.  With the addition of two new flat screen TVs to compliment our video conferencing centre (and of course, the expanded board room space) this has provided more opportunity to generate operating revenue with the leasing of the board room and video conferencing to new and existing clients.

Loans are continuing the upward trend: with the injection of additional money from the CFLIP fund we have moved to an all-time high in funds lent out, which stands at $1,784,500 as of the fiscal year end. Thanks again to Ross and his staff for this continued growth.

Community Futures Wood Buffalo has also been very proactive in the community and in meeting our strategic planning objectives of developing partnerships in our region, as Ross sits on the Municipalities Economic Planning Committee as well as the Commercial/Industrial land use study Committee.

This type of growth and community recognition happens only with the commitment of hard working staff who are truly dedicated to the success of this program, as well as the volunteer board members made up of local leaders who have given so much of their time to assist in the development of their region and the success of CFWB.

It has been a privilege to work with you all and thank you for your time and effort in helping CFWB move forward.
